One of my canvas bags~

Hi to all!  How has your week been going?  Have you had creative time? My visits out to blogland indicate that some of you have indeed been busy creating beauty and inspiration : )
I unfortunately have been busy taking care of other things and have not been at my craft table : /

It is (once again)  time for Wen's monthly SIMPLY NEUTRALS TUESDAY Link party!
And (once again) I do not have anything new in neutral colors   to contribute : /  so I have (once again) dug into my past posts! (yay sometimes for 'past posts' : ) and am sharing some pics of a  canvas bag I created several years ago.
I believe this is the first one I ever made.  It is a smaller size; will hold a few medium-sized books.
It's a canvas base, with a corner (bottom-right) covered in a vintage hankie piece.  The body is covered with a wide band of pretty (not vintage) lace., and a width of cotton lace too.  I've collected some laces, hankies, and such from estate sales over the years, and was also gifted some beautiful pieces from my late-husbands mother and grandmother.  The pretty corner hankie piece is from Grandma~
The handle for this bag was made from 'ripped' strips of canvas; to which I added a strip of cotton lace to the center (lengthwise) and I re-enforced the ripped edges with zig-zag machine stitching along the sides.

Here's a peek at the inside.  Made with a simple pocket for separation.
The rosette is a 'twisted & rolled up' hankie that had a bit of damage - so, a perfect use for it here!
I added a loose faux pearl to the center.

My heart belongs to Simply Neutral Tuesdays!  : )   And I just don't like to miss out < 3
So I am entering this at http://appleapricot.blogspot.com/
Our monthly link up party
The Link party runs all month long!  Please stop in to see, and if you have a neutral based piece of art, or photo - why not link up!?
I hope all is well in your heart and soul today~
The snow is still piling up here!  But I can see the beauty in this and know we will have a wonderful Spring melt because of it.
Blessings to you and big hugs too~
Karen

  1. Oh...I love this! Such a beautiful way to carry books or anything for that matter.
    Every little detail is beautiful!

Right now we are buried in a lot of snow walls and piles. We have run out of room to store all our snow and more is on the way. :)
Most of my time is shoveling, great exercise, but a little hard on my back and hips. The mounds are so high that I have to heave and throw quite high. I do enjoy the snow and being out in it, so no complaining here. ;)

Thank you for sharing your beauty with us ♡

    1. Hello Debbie and thanks for peeking in my blog! You always 'do my heart good': ) Sounds like you have the same problem with snow as we do here; No place to put it! We will have a beautiful melt though, (whenever that happens:) and less fire danger this year too~ Blessings & hugs, Karen

  2. I love your little canvas bag Karen!! It is an absolute delight. What a wonderful way to repurpose old hankies. I love the rolled and twisted rose and the lacy piece in the bottom corner is so pretty!
I have been spending a bit more time in my craft room because of our weather. It has been so hot, I've been hiding in the airconditioning .. LOL!! It's still warm here but at least it is now bearable and I don't have to hide any more!
Take care my dear friend and have a lovely day! hugs xx

    1. Marge your visits are so welcome! Always happy to see you stopped in. I feel like we live on two different planets! with us so cold & you all so hot down under~ But glad to hear you reporting a bit more bearable temps~ We are actually having a small rise in temp here; and though we're still getting snow - I think Spring is on her way : ) Hugs to you, Karen

  3. So glad you re-shared this Karen or should I say pulled it out of the Blogging bag hee hee!! What a lovely way of showing off those vintage pieces of lace and fabrics. I love the delicate touch of lace in the corner and how you have left the raw edge of the canvas. A clever way to heal that damaged hanky by creating that sweet rosette, it all flows together so beautifully.
I hope you use it often as it is an item to be seen and adored.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend and I hope the weather is now being kinder across the pond?
    Take good care.
    Creative Hugs Tracey xx

  16. Hello Karen, I can't comprehend all that snow! It does feel like we live on another world, doesnt it? We are having our first decent rain for ages, and I am loving it. The garden is parched remnants but the weeds always do better.

Your canvas bag is beautiful, Karen, and wonderful to see, despite being a gift you made ages ago. I too haven't been creative this month. But I have done some good living and thinking. You can see my story on my blog now - I am late to SN but made it there. I am sitting on my lounge with an old keyboard plugged into an old laptop as its keys don't work properly. My cat Jasper is curled up asleep against my thigh, so cosy. I can't seem to get into my flow in anything much, not even cleaning, and the fridge is a disaster.

Your bag is an inspiration - so simple, and such a lovely way to re-use scraps and damaged linen, which I adore too. I hope it's being used and appreciated by your friend.

Sending love and a big hug,
    Jesse XXX O

  17. Hello Tamara and thank you so much for your visit and comment! I did enjoy making that little canvas bag very much~ I always prefer to use something close to my heart (a vintage family pic; or in this case the hankie : ) when possible~
I had a busy week-end with my grandkids; so it was blessed! Hope you are well. Hugs to you, Karen

  18. Karen, that is the sweetest little bag. I love the little corner with lace and embroidery. So dainty and delicate. The rolled flower is also very pretty. I've made a few but am still trying to perfect them! I hadn't thought about using some slightly damaged linens for them. What a great idea. I just started to replenish my supply of embroidered linens yesterday. Picked up a few at a local vintage shop. I knew I could find inspiration here! Happy Spring Karen!
