A grungy, vintage-style thank you card~

Hello friends!  So happy you could peek in today~
How has your week been going?  Would love to hear how you've been.

I have a rather grungy style/vintage style card to share.
Well, if ever I wanted a card to look like it was 100 years old and fresh out of an old dusty box from Grama's attic - this would be it : )
What draws me to the grungy look I'm just not sure. But I love the 'peeled back' corners and edges. As if it is soo old, it's shredding away!    Now what's so fab about that; I can't say~ It just appeals to me.  Like finding an old treasure among Grama's things.

The die cuts here (butterflies, flowers, tag) are from Tim Holtz; which were recently gifted to me. I added some pleated seam binding and lots of seed beads and glittery stuff~
The ppr is either Prima (Salvage collection,) or - 49th & Market. Ooops.?! I don't remember.

There is a bit of white corrugated board under the tag, just for a little more texture.
I did dry emboss a few areas of the ppr and lightly inked w/ T Holtz Pumice Stone distress ink.

I really like postage 'stamping' so it often shows up in my projects.
I am not too keen on the sheen/shine of these paper die cuts, but I do love 'em~  You can see them here:

We are bracing ourselves for snow - soon ahead (in the forecast)  But for now, there are beautiful Fall colors everywhere.  It is cold here in the Rocky Mountains of Montana.  It will get to 50 deg(f) today, but lows in the mid 20's tonite!!
I am grateful for so many things, but especially today I'm grateful for my wood fireplace!
Working from home has it's advantages~

Today is a melancholy one for me.  A sad anniversary date : (tears tears)  I had a long cry yesterday - missing my Alan soooo much.  4 years now, but it hardly seems that long.  He would have loved it here (in MT)

Wishing you a blessed week ahead and hope for a creative one too~
Hugs,
Karen

  2. This is a beautiful card - as you say, it looks like a treasured memento preserved for decades in an attic, carefully pressed amongst linens and some lavender pockets to keep everything fresh. I love the little accents of colour, still muted in tone, but adding a touch of springtime life to the delicious textures and text in the background. I love a postmark stamp too!

  4. This is such a beautiful card Karen! I also love the distressed edges and am not really sure why either but it does make things look more aged and interesting. I love the muted tones with the little touches of colour and the pleated ribbon is perfectly placed! It really does look like it came out of an old box of memorabillia .. something that will, and should, be treasured!
So sorry you had such a sad day yesterday. Just remember that our loved ones are never truly gone. Their spirit is always with us in our memories of them. Sending love and hugs and God's Blessings. xx

  6. Hello, Karen,
Sorry I'm a bit late in visiting you! Life has taken over a while here. I LOVE your grungy card with its layers of texture and interest. I don't know why really, but it's my favourite style too. I think it's that organic, natural feel, not too perfect, and old and treasured. Your ribbon pleats look perfect, and you have such an artist's eye for putting it all together.

It's so good to let those tears flow when they need to - it's cleansing and healing. So often we bottle it all up and it festers inside. Grief is always about love, so in a way it's a celebration of that person. But don't forget to seek connection with your other family and friends - we need it more than we think. You're never alone in your pain. We all have to go through it.

I love Kahlil Gibran's quote: “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter's oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.”

Big hugs - though it's not the same as areal hug, I know. But sending that energy to you!

  7. Karen! I just love this card! I only wish you had done a step out so I could see yours process! I love all of your layers! Now if I ever make cards, this is the style I would love to make! (I am late to the card making club and therefore, not versed in it)

Anyway, our weather here has changed, cold...40-50and rainy, I had been waiting for the change due the ungodly humidity we were having. Now I am not sure as I have been battling upper respiratory for a month and not sure that this dampness is helping!(oh well, at least I am no longer in that pain!)

Just want you to know I am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers, that healing may come to you as well as the comfort of believing, maybe your Allen is with you, enjoying your new space along side of you. sending hugs and love,Jackie xo

    1. Hi Jackie!! Was so nice to see your visit and comment~ Grungy cards are some of my fav things to make : )
I wish I could do a "step out" (that must mean a sort of 'step by step process?' But I'm such a fly by night girl, winging things as I go; I don't know if I could! I appreciate your visit so much. Glad your pain has subsided and I hope the humidity goes away! Don't want you sick again~ Hugs to you, Karen

  9. Oh my dear friend Dorthe, Thank you for the visit! I appreciate your comments from the heart~ I am doing well except for some expected sadness as I explained : / I can hear the Canadian geese flying in the sky outside.
I used something called Prills. You could google that if you like. They add a tiny stone or bead look to things. I am so grateful to be able to make something~ Hugs to you, Karen
