Burlap Journal (second time around : )

Hi friends!  Greetings from chilly Montana~  I'm saying a long goodbye to Summer; I never want to let her go!  I hang on to warmth and sunshine as long as possible.
But alas, the leaves are changing and most of the days are now fairly cool (50's-60's Fht) with snow forecast for the approaching week-end!  Wowzer, Life in the Rocky Mountains~

Here is a continued 'blast from the past' with a Journal I made for my sweet baby sis.
She was going to a Ladies Retreat and I put this together for her with a specific theme in mind; hoping this would be a help there in keeping her notes in order~
I saw this "left to right" open idea on a delightful blog called justlilla https://justlilla.blogspot.com/
several years ago and thought it was a lovely idea!
Mine is burlap (about 10" tall) and lined with cotton fabric.  The pocket is made from vintage tea towel. There is also a short burlap pocket & pencil holder. I included bits of this and that; corrugated board, twine, stamping, white buttons, titch of metal, pearl beads, and laces. The closure tie is wide twill tape.
I tucked in a few memento's and  this homemade card for her.  I used mostly  Maja Design papers --> http://majadesign.nu/products/vintage-autumn-basics/

Do you know the words to the song  "Bridge Over Troubled Waters"?   I included those words on a vintage sheet of paper; tucked in the card.  It was a difficult time in her life and I wanted to include lots of encouragement~ (𝅘𝅥𝅮𝅘𝅥𝅮 . . .I'm sailing right behind . . .)

I hope life is treating you well?
I've enjoyed my Summer very much!  With out-of-state  company coming - and a few trips of my own sprinkled in~
Have a great week ahead! & God bless~
I leave you with my hearts truth - -
"Really?"   . . . sayin' goodbye to my sandals?
Karen~

  1. Oh Karen, so sorry to hear that summer has left an you may have snow on the way, I guess it is the price you pay for living in a beautiful area. Glad to hear you enjoyed your summer with guests and some traveling too :)
I am so sure that your sister was very touched by this beautiful journal you made for her, I can only imagine how it lifted her spirits as she was on the retreat. Love the little pockets, even for the pencil, great texture and love that you mix burlap with lace embroidery pieces, Gorgeous!

  2. I had to chuckle as you shared your sadness of leaving summer behind.
I too find it hard, but once I give in and bring out the Fall decor, I'm okay with it.
Today was the day for changing things up in the house, next week I'll clean up the outside and put things away. :(
Once the outside is cleaned up I'm ready for the cooler weather.
Today I had lunch out on the back deck and it was HOT!
I should have given Donatella a bath so she could dry in the sun.

You did such a lovely job on that journal for your sister and how special to personalize it for her retreat.
I would love to carry a journal like that. :-)

    Enjoy this season~

    1. Thank you for stopping in to see the journal I made Debbie!! Yes, letting go of the warm & sunny season is difficult for me~ But it is truly lovely here year round so I will find the beauty in the changing season! : ) [Winter can be very cloudy though - no sun for weeks sometimes; that takes some gearing up!] Loving hugs, Karen

  3. What a beautiful journal Karen! Your Sister would have been thrilled to receive it especially at a difficult time in her life. The burlap cover looks wonderful and I love the left to right opening! So unique! Love the pockets inside and the card is gorgeous too! What a little treasure .. love it!!
Glad you had such a fabulous Summer and sad for you that it is over. We should swap places. I'll come up to the cold and you could come down here to our Summer, although it might be a bit hot for you. It certainly is for me .. I'm not looking forward to the heatwaves. So blessed to have airconditioning! Take care my sweet friend! hugs xx

    1. Hi Marg! Thank you so much for stopping to see the burlap journal I made~ Your words are always so encouraging! I think I would trade places with you! At least for a while : ) I am now understanding why older people retire to warm places like Arizona USA! But you know Marge, I'm guessing everywhere I'd go in Phoenix they will have the air-conditioning on; and I would freeze! LOL I guess I better learn to be happy in the state I'm in and call it good! ; ) Hugs to you and enjoy your week-end friend~ Hugs, Karen

  4. Such a beautiful journal you made for your sister. It would be such a pleasure to make. I know that must bring you joy. We have a nice long warm season and so nothing to complain about. I just don't like cold. The seasons move so fast it seems like we will be full circle again before long. Montana must be beautiful, but I need lots of sun! It's so sweet of you to comment on my small world. Nice to have a word from you!

  6. What a wonderful wallet for your sister to take on her retreat - so full of love and thoughtfulness, it must have provided joy and solace each day for her while she was away, and I'm sure it still does. I love the burlap texture and that serene seascape with the adorable little sailboat, and the delightful "fluffy" decorative clouds too. I'm also reluctant to let go of summer. I find myself sitting in the evening in my light summer top getting gradually chillier, so that in the end I need a hot water bottle by the time I go to bed! Time to dig out the slippers and scarves, I fear...

I've been in Ohio for a few days; the temps were much warmer! So summer lingered on for me : )
The snow stayed in the mountains, so we are having some Autumn going on in the valley where I live (in MT)
